Collage and Acrylic

I have been smitten by the world of collage. I love the different textures and layers that can be created in collage.
It is a wonderful form of art because you can use recycled and natural material that are easily found around the home. Like newspaper, old books and magazines, envelopes , onion skins, leaves that have partially decomposed, bark, tissue paper etc..... The list can go on and on. That isn't including the papers that you can purchase, like oriental washi papers, textured papers and home made papers. Then using your acrylic paints to glaze layers of colour.
Collage for me is about shapes and using negative and positive space. I also love the abstract quality that lends itself to the technique.

New Shows for 2011

SOLD - Moonlit Golden Woods - Acrylic 24' x 24"
I am looking forward to participating in a few more shows this year. Last year I participated in the Saugeen Artist Co Op Art Show and Sale in July in the town of Hanover.  I will post the details of this years show once they are all finalized.
I will also be participating again in the annual  DVSA Auction located  at the Dundas Valley School of Art in the town of Dundas. It is a wonderful opportunity for students and teachers to display and sell there art work. As well it goes to a great cause to keep the school funded and keep the cultural tourism of the region popular. Last Year I  participated in a month long group show with the Saugeen Artist Co Op at the Riversong Gallery located in the small town of Neaustdt. I was very pleased to have sold one of my paintings on the opening day of the show.
I will keep everyone posted this year of all of the events that I will be participating in. Most importantly it is a great opportunity to display my art and meet the public. And of course to see my family and friends.

Finding Inspiration in Nature

Dancing Light in the Pines

Bailey Watching Brandy

The Pines on our 36 acre property
It is so easy to get up everyday and be able to paint when you find inspiration in your own backyard. My dogs are one reason that I have that opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors. Everyday without fail I bundle up, camera in hand and Brandy, Bailey and I head down the driveway into the woods. I never tire of the pines. The woods are truly a beautiful wonderland after a fresh snow fall. Capturing the light filtering through is my challenge when I paint. I have been working on a series of woodland paintings. Here is a sample in progress.

It's a New Year and I am Focused on my Art

New painting- Winter Trails
Brandy and Bailey First Day Meeting

Wow , what a year 2010 turned out to be. We made the big move to the country last year . Sold our home in Cambridge, adopted a new Golden Retriever puppy, built a new great room and joined a local art group. When I think about my art , I am pleased with what I was able to accomplish regardless of all the other activity. I was happy to be able to teach a few classes and participated in two art shows. I accomplished my goal of completing the art certificate program at the DVSA.
The Pines

Brandy and Bailey Playing in the Snow
I would have loved to have painted more than I was able to, but without a studio and the house in disarray , I was delegated to the kitchen table and the outdoors. I am happy to report that I now have a studio room to paint in and a gallery to show my art.

So, this year my plans are to keep up with my blog posts, enter some art shows, continue teaching classes and most importantly to paint everyday! Oh and sell some paintings too!  What a joy to paint with all of this inspiration surrounding me.  The trails surrounding the lake ,the woodlands with  pines, cedars and wildlife and the flower, herb and vegetable gardens.
